The Binder
I wasn’t always a reader until I read The Hobbit. I remember picking up a copyfrom my school library and apparently all it took was one trip to Middle-Earth. Since then, I’ve made my way through dystopian worlds, magical kingdoms and more fantasy series than my shelves probably appreciate. Nowadays, give me a strong female lead, good world-building and a dragon or two, and I’m happy.
I discovered bookbinding while scrolling through Bookstagram looking for my next read. I kept coming across people transforming ordinary books at home and, while reading a fanfiction I desperately wanted on my shelf. I bought a few supplies, made my first bind… and haven’t really stopped since.
The name A Thousand Lives comes from what I love most about reading. Every story lets us step into another world, become someone else for a while, and experience lives we could never live ourselves. Now, I get to turn some of those stories into beautiful books made to be held, displayed and loved.
I love finding the detail, moment or feeling that captures the essence of a story and figuring out how to translate it onto a cover. A little over a year later, I’m still learning, experimenting and somehow finding space for bookbinding amongst a full-time job and far too many other hobbies.
Only a few, by design.
Selected bindings may be made in very small editions, offering collectors one of only a handful of copies of a particular design. Each retains the intimacy of a hand-finished piece.
